Today we honor the extraordinary life and legacy of Margaret Hamilton (August 17, 1936 - September 30, 2026).
As the director of the Software Engineering Division of the MIT Instrumentation Lab for Apollo, she coined the term "software engineering" and led the development of the onboard flight software that safely landed humanity on the Moon. 🚀
It is deeply symbolic that during her 90 years, she lived to witness the beginning of a profound, AI-driven transformation of the very discipline she pioneered- from hand-crafted logical stacks to autonomous systems evolving on the foundation she laid six decades ago.
Thank you, Margaret, for defining our field and reaching for the stars. 🌌
